SOCIAL GROUPS?
I have used a female as my main character, as there is very little female representation
compared to male representationin real music magazines. Females are usually
represented to have a rebelliousedge in most music magazines, such as in NME and Q:
These music magazines are primarily aimed at males, so therefore the representationof
females as edgy, strong,and rebelliousmay appeal to a dominantmale audience, as the
singers are not representedas overly feminine despite their longhair, make-up and
styling.
In my music magazine, the representationof my character is very different to how
females are usuallyrepresented;my model doesn’thave so much of an edgy feel, but
more of a soft, bubbly and friendly feel, however she stillpossesses a rebelliousstreak.
My model is also quite young, and representsa youngeraudience, primarily throughher
styling, but alsoattractingto a youngeraudience throughher friendly postureand smiley
facial expression.
I have alsorepresented
males in my music magazine
to appeal to my primary
female targetaudience. The
male starsare represented
as fun, cool and attractive,
appealing to young females
fans.
